Florida White Project
Currently our four Florida White does are all in a colony and living large on their own accord. We decided to try a colony this year and it has worked out great. The kids have a large water trough for them all and about twice a week they throw the bunnies bales of grass hay and occasional treats from the compost and boy are they loving life. What is even more amazing is that all four of these does were raised separately in cages and some even had litters prior to introducing them to the colony. All four does get along like they were sisters raised together. They groom each other and lay together and sometimes they come up to the edge of the gates for loves from people. When it is time to breed them for the kids' meat pen for fair, they will have to go back in cages for the last week or so of their pregnancy until they wean their litters, so that we can keep track of the babies. But they will return to their colony soon after and I hope they remember each other and settle in again. The colony is such a great way to raise a few does together, I hope everyone has the chance to do it at least once in their rabbit rearing days.
